Theatre executive director Manoj Desai disputed the police account, saying burnt electrical cables were the real cause, with replacements being sourced from Lohar Chawl in South Mumbai.
Gaiety Galaxy has operated in Bandra since 1972, and is considered one of Mumbai’s most recognisable surviving single-screen cinemas.
No date has been set for the theatre to reopen as the licensing question and repairs are addressed.
