Shubman Gill has topped the ICC’s ODI batting rankings, overtaking New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell for the No. 1 spot.
Gill’s rise followed strong scores in India’s recent ODI series against England, where he made an unbeaten 80 in the first match and 77 in the third ODI at Lord’s.
Mitchell has slipped to second place after a quieter run of form, including 65 in an opening ODI against West Indies followed by two scores of 28.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma remain third and fourth respectively in the latest rankings update.
Separately, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi jumped 230 places in the T20I batting rankings to reach 48th, up from 278th ahead of a series against Zimbabwe.
The jump came after Sooryavanshi scored 151 runs across a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, including two half-centuries.
Gill’s climb to the top of the ODI rankings comes as he continues to lead India’s white-ball side, a role he has held since October 2025 after replacing Rohit Sharma ahead of the Australia tour.
The rankings update follows India’s recent tour of England, where several batters produced strong performances in the white-ball leg.
England took the three-match series 2-1, with India’s win in the opening ODI at Birmingham followed by defeats at Cardiff and Lord’s. Joe Root was named Player of the Series after scoring 249 runs across the three matches.
Gill’s rise to the top ranking comes despite India’s series loss, a reminder that individual batting form and team results can diverge over a short limited-overs series.
ICC batting rankings are updated regularly based on recent performances, with points weighted more heavily toward matches played against stronger opposition and in bigger series.
Gill has held the India ODI captaincy since October 2025, when he replaced Rohit Sharma for the tour of Australia, and has since led the side through series against New Zealand and Australia.
