India’s Sensex and Nifty 50 logged a fifth straight session of losses on Friday, weighed down by rising crude oil prices linked to tensions between the United States and Iran.
The Sensex closed at 76,059.77, down 331.62 points or 0.43 per cent. The Nifty 50 ended at 23,767.45, down 102.15 points, also 0.43 per cent, below the 23,800 mark.
Auto, metal and energy stocks led the losses on the day, reflecting their sensitivity to global crude oil price movements.
IT and media stocks were the standout performers, closing higher and cushioning the broader market’s fall.
The result means both benchmark indices have now closed lower for five consecutive trading sessions.
