Prime Focus Studios has sealed a deal with Sony Pictures for the global distribution of its mythological epic Ramayana in markets outside India.
The agreement is being described as one of the biggest international distribution deals for an Indian film. Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, and is directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
The film’s score has been composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Prime Focus Studios founder Namit Malhotra called the Sony Pictures deal a historic moment, and the trailer launch has been postponed as a result.
Ramayana will release internationally in multiple languages, including a premium English-language version.
Distribution within India will continue to be handled by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
