IGI Airport confirmed normal flight operations on Tuesday amid an India Meteorological Department red alert for heavy rain in Delhi.
The airport’s advisory, issued by operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), said adverse weather conditions were expected through the day, while flight operations continued as scheduled.
Passengers were advised to check their flight status directly with their respective airlines before leaving for the airport, given the unpredictable weather.
Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo also issued their own advisories, asking travellers to stay updated on flight timings during the red alert.
The IMD forecast cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, with another spell of rain expected later in the evening or at night.
An orange alert has also been placed on the region for the following 48 hours, meaning the unsettled weather is expected to continue even after Tuesday’s red alert eases.
The alert follows a similar warning issued a day earlier for eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra, where extremely heavy rainfall and flash flood risk were flagged, part of an active monsoon spell moving across northern and western India.
Similar red alerts had also covered Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the week as the same system passed through the region.
Officials also warned of possible traffic congestion and waterlogging in low-lying parts of the city due to the intensity of the rain.
Commuters were told to check road conditions before travelling and avoid flooded stretches, even as the airport maintained that flight schedules were unaffected, with passengers urged to allow extra time given the unsettled conditions forecast through the week.
The airport has said live flight information remains available on its official website and social media channels for residents and passengers seeking updates.
